Business at Sunrise
April's guest presenter Dr Daniel Angus gave a fascinating insight into the way algorithms work and their role in modern communication and media. Some of the interesting examples he provided were 2/3 of movies watched on Netflix are chosen based on a recommendation, 1/3 of purchases made on Amazon are made from a recommendation and the series "House of Cards" was created as a result of data that showed that Kevin Spacey and Political thrillers ranked highly with viewers. Very powerful statistics being monitored to meet peoples behavioural patterns and likes.
We also had 2 very interesting but completely different businesses of the month - firstly the Bulimba State Member of Parliament, Di Farmer, discussing her Instagram initiative to encourage local businesses to consider social media tactics for their business as well as listening to local business needs.
Secondly was Brisbane River Dragons (BRD) which is the oldest dragon boat club in Brisbane. BRD is also an outrigger canoe club. They compete in local, state, national and international competitions and offer social paddling for fun and fitness with training available all year round.
Members please take a moment to check out some of the features on our new website - local regional statistics , links to government departments, training courses and grant opportunities. We will also have all presentations recorded for future reference.
Have a great month in Business
